Avery Board - Avery County is one of two counties in the entire state of North Carolina that does not have an Animal Control Officer. Genesis gets calls all the time from concerned citizens in Avery County who phone in to report animal abuse. We take these calls and plead with residents to improve animal conditions but without an Animal Control Officer, we have no legal power to ensure these animals live in humane conditions. We can offer public opinions at the next Avery county meeting at 3:30 on Sept. 8th. I will be attending and hope to have about 30 people attend. The location of the commissioner's quarters is in Newland. It is across from the Senior Center, a 2 story building with a green tin roof. It's the same area where CVS pharmacy is at the light with Subway/Valero gas station. Please get as many concerned citizens as possible to attend this meeting. We desperately need to make an impression with the commissioners. Anyone may speak at this meeting. I will definitely have my 3 minute's worth.
Town Council - Beech Mtn Town Council Meeting every 2nd Tuesday at the Town Hall 2pm.
